Gaia Art Foundation and the Hayward Gallery invited me to write and deliver a yoga nidra meditation inspired by an artist in the exhibition ‘Dear Earth’. The term ‘nidra’ is Sanskrit for ‘sleep’ and during a yoga nidra, the body enters a state of deep rest while the mind and imagination are free to wander. For this commission, I chose to focus on the work of artist Agnes Denes, and I wrote a 15-minute meditation that fosters a sense of presence by encouraging you to connect with your bodily senses and develop an awareness of what it feels like to be alive, and to simply be. The yoga nidra moves through several elements from the life and art of Agnes Denes, including the art works ‘Wheatfield: A Confrontation’ (1982) and ‘The Living Pyramid’ (1995).
