About me

Coaching

I work with individuals and groups, in person in London and online. Together, we’ll clarify your vision, navigate transitions, and make a plan to help you achieve your goals with greater ease and confidence.

My coaching approach brings together 20 years of experience in contemporary art with trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirmative coaching methods, alongside mindful practices that support creative wellbeing. As a writer, and a qualified Relational Dynamics coach (ILM Level 7 equivalent), I understand the creative process intimately—both its challenges and possibilities.

In September 2025 I launched Creative Expansion, a six-week group coaching programme for artists, writers and creative professionals. In 2024 I devised and delivered Pier Peers, an artist development programme for artists from the East of England, as part of Felixstowe-based arts organisation Pier Projects’ longstanding work in the fields of art and health. I also work with arts and culture organisations, including magazines and publishers, providing group coaching, training, facilitation and consultancy.

Mentoring

Alongside coaching, for more than 12 years I have provided mentoring for artists, writers and creative professionals. Drawing on my extensive experience across contemporary art—as a curator, writer, editor, and educator—I act as a critical friend, offering practical guidance on developing your work, navigating the worlds of art and/or publishing, building your career in a sustainable way, and strengthening your art, writing, or curatorial practice.

Writing

My writing regularly features in publications such as friezeArt MonthlyArt Quarterly, and The World of Interiors, and I’ve contributed to Tate Etc.RA Magazine, and The White Review.

My latest book, More Than The Eyes: Art, Food and the Senses (Atelier Éditions/D.A.P) considers the ways in which food, when used as a material in contemporary art, confronts, subverts and ultimately brings us to our senses. Focusing on artists working between 1960 and 2000, the book shows how we’ve become restricted by a hierarchy that values sight and reason above other senses, and how encounters with food in art can help us break this bind.

My book Co-Art: Artists on Creative Collaboration (Phaidon) explores the phenomenon of collaboration in the visual arts and its potential in society at large. It includes a historical survey of artistic co-production and co-authorship as well as chapters on 25 international contemporary co-art groups. I discussed my research into creative collaboration in this interview on Artspace and my edition of BBC Radio 4’s programme Four Thought.

I have contributed to numerous books including Phaidon’s award-winning bestsellers in the ‘Great Women Artists’ series, medium-specific titles in the ‘Vitamin’ series including Clay + Ceramic, Textiles, Drawing, Threads & Textiles, Painting, and Words in contemporary art, and art historical survey books focusing on art around the world such as Latin American Artists, and African Artists. I’ve contributed essays and interviews to books, exhibition catalogues and publications about a wide range of artists.

For frieze, I wrote and directed the video essays Art & Life, about the ethical implications of art works that use living animals and plants; and Suburban Odyssey, in which I retraced Robert Smithson’s journey to his home town of Passaic, New Jersey, in search of the monuments of his time.

I deliver writing workshops for artists, editors, curators and writers and provide editorial services for clients including artists, magazines and book publishers.

Teaching

I have taught widely in fine art, curating and arts writing disciplines. I was Associate Lecturer on Central Saint Martins’ BA Culture: Criticism and Curating (2018-20), Tutor in Sculpture at The Royal College of Art (2014-17), Associate Lecturer at the London College of Communication (2018), and I’ve delivered guest lectures, crits and tutorials at The Royal Academy Schools, Goldsmiths College, Brighton University and Newcastle University.

Curating

In 2013-15 I was Curator of Public Collection Development at the Contemporary Art Society, where I was responsible for its acquisitions scheme for museums across the UK. Prior to that, I worked at various arts organisations in London, including the Barbican Art Gallery and the British Museum. In 2015, following a research trip to Japan, I curated by the mountain path at White Rainbow gallery, London.

Yoga and Meditation

I am a qualified yoga teacher (YTT300) and Level 1 iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation teacher—skills which inform my coaching and mentoring. These embodied practices offer powerful tools for connecting with the aesthetic sense, managing creative blocks, building resilience, and accessing deeper sources of insight and clarity.

In 2020 I received a Time Space Money bursary from an: The Artists Information Company, to develop the course Cultivating Creativity with Yoga, which I’ve taught to artists, arts professionals and students at organisations including SPACE Studios, Central Saint Martins, and the London Creative Network.

I hold CEU certificates in subjects including Functional Anatomy for Yoga Specialists; Trauma-Informed Yoga Teaching; Ayurveda 101; Psychology, Yoga and Ayurveda: Tools for Managing Grief; and Tools for Resilience: Managing Triggers With Polyvagal Theory and Yoga. I continue to learn about the vast field of yoga, with an avid interest in ancient philosophy and the latest developments in applied neuroscience within mindful movement practices.

I’ve combined my expertise as a writer and meditation teacher to write original long-form meditations, or yoga nidras, inspired by art works and I’ve delivered them in art settings such as the Hayward Gallery and the Isle of Sheppey as part of artist Adam Chodzko’s Dreamshare Seer.

Community

I am a trustee of The Old Waterworks, an artist-led charity in Southend-on-Sea, which provides studios, facilities, and research and development opportunities for artists.
